High Country and Beyond (HC&B) is a unique annual 4WD event run by a team who are passionate about sharing this corner of paradise. HC&B is a not-for-profit incorporated body that is affiliated with 4WD Victoria.
Our team has extensive 4WDing knowledge and are experienced in travelling this remote and ruggedly beautiful countryside. The team consists of members that reside or work in the high country and have been instrumental in organising 4WD events in the high country for the last 10 years.
We have chosen trips this year that showcase the beauty and diversity of the Victorian High Country
offering maginficent 4WDing opportunities with stunning panoramic views of the Alps, magnificent waterfalls and gorges. There are also the scattered remnants of High Country heritage, with iconic huts of the early Pastorlists and even some hidden relics from the Gold Rush era.
Who is this Event for?
There will be a trip or trips that will satisfy your 4WDing desires.
We have trips to suit beginners right through to very experienced 4WDers.
Day trips, multiple overnight trips and a range of trips that will take you to some of the most iconic HIgh Country destinations, but it’s not all about 4WDing all the time,
We also have a range of activities that encourage participation such as. expert talks from locals about the area, a Gala Dinner, some fine music and of course, plenty of time to talk about your day’s adventures.
Our goal is to ensure that you meet new people who have a keen interest in the outdoors and where you all have an opportunity to form life-long friendships, hence our motto “Friendships Forged Through Journeys Shared”
The High Country and Beyond, 2019 Event:
Base camp will be at The Dargo River Inn, from Saturday the 16th till Sunday the 24th of March, 2019.
After such a successful event last year at Omeo and with so much more to country to explore in the neighbouring Dargo Valley, we have decided Dargo will be our base for 2019 and 2020. In 2019 we are pleased to announce that we have some local guest speakers that are subject matter experts in goldmining and other key industries that formed Dargo’s past right up to the modern day. This adds to the overall experience of HC&B giving you some unique insights to the area.
Shorter options available: Half Week Experience
If you are not able to stay the whole week, then there is the half week event option:
Blue Long Weekend Half Event: 16th-19th March
Green Second Half Event : 20th-24th March
Whichever option you chose to participate in, you will be amazed at the experiences we have to offer you, some examples below!
Our trip itinery has some cross over from Omeo’s favourites from last year, Wonnangatta Station, Blue Rag Range, and of course, Talbotville but there are many more, including “Camper Trailer” friendly trips! Huts of Dargo, Billy Goat, Upper New Place Hut to name just a few!
As you can see, there are plenty of choices for the serious 4WDer’s, but if would like a little luxury and more gentile pace, take a look at the very popular Shannonvale trip that we will again be running in 2019, or some of the day trips which include one of the highest Brewery’s in Australia Blizzard Brewery of Dinner Plain. The choices are all yours.
